For homeowners across Australia

If you live in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide — or anywhere else across NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA, TAS or the ACT — and want to understand your home's feng shui energy for 2026, this free analyzer is built for you. It uses the same Classical Flying Star (Fei Xing / 飛星) method I apply when I fly in to audit Australian homes in person, packaged as a free browser tool.

Most "feng shui apps" on the App Store use a flattened Western version of the system — lucky cats, generic colour codes, decorative placement advice. The 2026 Feng Shui Analyzer follows the original classical method that practitioners use in paid audits, with optional 24-Mountain compass precision for serious users.

Does feng shui work in the Southern Hemisphere?

Yes — and this is the most common question Australian clients ask. The Classical Flying Star system is direction-based, not season-based. The compass directions (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW) work the same in Sydney as in Singapore. The 8 Wealth Star is in the East in 2026 whether you're in Bondi or Brixton.

What does change: in the Northern Hemisphere, the sun is typically in the south, which is why north-facing windows are dim and south-facing rooms are warm. In Australia, that reverses — your north-facing rooms are the warm, sunny ones. This affects how you might want to USE a sector (e.g., a south-facing dim room may suit a study), but it doesn't change which star lands there. The Flying Star calculations are based on compass orientation only, not solar exposure.

Aussie home types and the analyzer

  • Sydney terraces in Paddington, Surry Hills or Newtown have narrow rectangular footprints, often two storeys. Use the "+ Add another floor" feature to upload ground floor and first floor separately. The annual stars apply to every storey.
  • Melbourne weatherboards and Edwardian homes in Carlton, Fitzroy or St Kilda often have unusual angled walls and verandah extensions. The 24-Mountain (0–359°) input handles odd orientations precisely.
  • Queensland Queenslanders raised on stumps with the living quarters above are functionally single-floor for feng shui purposes — upload just the main living level. The under-stump space doesn't carry annual star activation.
  • Perth bungalows and post-war WA homes often have a clearly defined front door and a separate rear entry. Use the front door as the facing direction (the one closest to the street).
  • Modern apartment towers in CBDs and waterfront developments: upload your apartment's floor plan, not the building's. Front door = the main door into YOUR apartment, not the building lobby.

How to use a compass app correctly in Australia

The single most important data point is your home's facing direction — the direction your front door points outward to. To measure:

  1. Stand inside, facing your front door from inside.
  2. Hold your phone flat, screen up.
  3. Open the iPhone Compass app or any free Android compass app.
  4. Note the bearing in degrees. North is 0°, East is 90°, South is 180°, West is 270°.
  5. That bearing IS your facing direction. Enter it in the Advanced input, or pick the matching cardinal direction.

Australia-specific note: magnetic declination in Australia is significant — between +9° (Perth) and +12° (Sydney/Brisbane) east of true north. For Classical Feng Shui purposes use the magnetic bearing your phone compass shows directly — Classical Feng Shui calculations have always used magnetic, not true, north.

What 2026 means for Australian homes

2026 is a Bing Wu Fire Horse year in Period 9. The annual stars apply universally; what differs by country is how you USE them. Three Australia-specific notes:

  • The 5 Disaster star is in the South. In Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, the south-facing wall of your home is often where the cool, shaded rooms sit. If your master bedroom, study or main living room is in that southern sector, avoid major renovation, structural changes or noisy activity there in 2026.
  • The 8 Wealth star is in the East. Your morning-sun east-facing rooms (often kitchens or breakfast areas in Aussie homes) carry the most powerful auspicious star of the year. Use them daily, keep them active, place water features or living plants in this sector.
  • The 3 Conflict star is in the West. The west of your home — where the afternoon sun sets — should not have red décor, bright spotlights, or contentious objects in 2026. Cure with a single still red candle if you must keep activity there (counter-intuitive but correct: fire drains the wood energy of arguments).

About Daniel Siew — Australian consultations

I'm a Malaysian-born Classical Feng Shui consultant. My Australian practice covers Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide, with on-site audits arranged across NSW, VIC, QLD, WA and SA. I have audited Aussie homes ranging from inner-city terraces to harbourside mansions and Hunter Valley vineyards.

Two consultation modes for Australian clients:

  • Online via Zoom — 60-minute consultation works for most apartments and standard homes. Send floor plan, compass reading, photos. Time zone: I usually take Australia bookings 2 PM – 6 PM AEST (which is 11 AM – 3 PM MYT my time).
  • On-site audit — I fly in for large estates, multi-property portfolios, or commercial premises. Flight from KL adds about AU$1,500 to the consultation fee but is worth it for complex sites.

Australian feng shui FAQ

Is feng shui popular in Australia?

Yes — particularly among Chinese-Australian families and in the property market in Sydney and Melbourne. Many high-end Aussie property developments commission feng shui audits for the Asian buyer market. Among Anglo-Australian homeowners, classical feng shui (the original system, not the pop-culture version) is a growing interest as people look for analytical methods rather than colour-and-symbol decorating advice.

Do I need a Chinese compass for the analyzer?

No. A standard phone compass app is perfectly sufficient. The analyzer accepts either an 8-cardinal direction or an exact 0–359° bearing — both work with any compass reading.

Does feng shui work for new-build apartments?

Yes. The system is method-agnostic about building age. Whether you've just bought off-the-plan in a Brisbane high-rise or you live in a 1920s Federation bungalow in Adelaide, the same Flying Star calculation applies. Upload your floor plan, mark the front door direction, read the result.

Can you do an on-site audit in Australia?

Yes — book a consultation. For Sydney and Melbourne I can usually arrange on-site within 5–7 weeks (subject to flight availability). For Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, I batch Australian trips quarterly to keep travel cost down for clients.
