What is the Flying Star method?

Classical Feng Shui has several layers. The most foundational is the natal chart of a building — determined by the period it was built in and the direction it faces. Sitting beneath that is the annual layer: every year, nine energy stars fly to new directional positions, temporarily amplifying or suppressing the fixed energy of each sector.

This is the Flying Star (Fei Xing) method. It is the reason that a house that felt stable last year can feel unsettled this year, even though nothing about the house itself has changed. The annual stars have moved.

The 2026 Feng Shui Floor Plan Analyzer maps exactly this — the 2026 annual star positions — onto your uploaded floor plan, using your compass facing direction to align the grid correctly.

The nine stars and what they mean in 2026

The Flying Star system uses nine numbers, each carrying a different quality of energy. In 2026 (the Year of the Bing Wu / Fire Horse), they fly to the following positions:

Star 2026 Sector Nature What to do
8 White — Wealth East Auspicious ✦ Activate — place desk, sofa or bed here. Use this sector for work and meetings.
9 Purple — Future Prosperity Southeast Auspicious ✦ Excellent for long-term planning, business growth, and creative work.
1 White — Intelligence Centre Auspicious ✦ Strong for study, strategy, and clear decision-making.
6 White — Mentor & Authority North Auspicious ✦ Good for networking, authority and support from influential people.
4 Green — Romance & Academic Northeast Auspicious ✦ Use for study areas. Good for students and those launching new ideas.
3 Jade — Conflict West Neutral/caution Avoid arguments and legal matters initiated from this area. Keep it quiet.
7 Red — Loss & Robbery Southwest Inauspicious ✗ Avoid renovation here. Do not store valuables. Keep this sector quiet.
2 Black — Sickness Northwest Inauspicious ✗ Avoid placing a bedroom here in 2026. Keep this area quiet and clean.
5 Yellow — Disaster South Critical ✗✗ Do not renovate, drill or do anything noisy in the South sector in 2026.

How to use the analyzer: step by step

The tool is designed to be fast. Here is exactly how to use it:

Step 1 — Prepare your floor plan. Take a clear photo of your floor plan. A hand-drawn sketch works. An architect's plan works. A screenshot from a property listing works. Even a rough diagram you draw yourself works. The key is that the shape of the space is visible — the tool overlays a grid on top, so perfect quality is not required.

Step 2 — Find your facing direction. This is the most important step. Open the compass app on your phone. Stand at your front door. Face outward — as if you are walking out of the house. Take the reading. That is your facing direction. It will be one of the eight cardinal or intercardinal directions: North, South, East, West, NE, NW, SE, or SW.

For apartments and offices in high-rise buildings: use the direction the building faces, not the apartment door. For shopfronts: use the direction the shop window and entrance faces toward the street.

Step 3 — Upload and select. Go to danielsiew.com/feng-shui-analyzer. Upload your floor plan. Click the facing direction button. The 9-Palace grid appears on your floor plan immediately — no loading, no waiting.

Step 4 — Read the colours. Green sectors are your auspicious zones for 2026. This is where you want to be — your primary workspace, your living room seating, ideally your bedroom. Red sectors carry difficult stars this year. You do not need to abandon these rooms, but avoid activating them unnecessarily: no renovation, no loud noise, no major new furniture placements.

Step 5 — Adjust the overlay opacity. The tool lets you adjust how transparent the grid is. Turn it down slightly and you can see both the floor plan and the star positions clearly at the same time.

What the analyzer does not cover

The annual Flying Star overlay is one layer of Feng Shui analysis — an important one, but not the complete picture. There are two things the tool cannot capture:

The first is the natal chart of your building — the fixed energy determined by its period of construction and facing direction. A house built in Period 8 (2004–2023) facing North has a completely different natal chart from a house built in Period 7 (1984–2003) facing South. The annual stars sit on top of this fixed foundation. If the annual star and the natal star in the same sector are aligned, the effect is doubled. If they conflict, they can neutralise or complicate each other.

The second is your personal BaZi — your natal chart as a person. Different people have different elemental structures, and the stars that benefit you most are connected to your own chart. A person whose BaZi chart is strong in water benefits differently from the 1 White Water Star than someone whose chart is already water-heavy.

For both of these — a full natal audit with annual overlay, and a personal BaZi-linked prescription — a private consultation with Daniel is available at danielsiew.com/consultation.html.

A practical example: North-facing home in 2026

To make this concrete: if your front door faces North, the 2026 star positions align to your floor plan as follows. The East sector of your home — which carries the 8 White Wealth Star this year — becomes your primary activation zone. Place a desk, sofa or bed there. Use it for work, meetings, and money-related conversations. The South sector of your home carries the 5 Yellow this year. Leave that room calm. If it is a bathroom, close the door. If it is a storeroom, leave it undisturbed. Absolutely no renovation in the South this year.

Every facing direction produces a slightly different overlay, which is why the compass step matters. A South-facing home has the same stars but the relationship between those stars and the rooms shifts entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Feng Shui analyzer really free? +

Yes. The analyzer at danielsiew.com/feng-shui-analyzer is completely free to use. No account, no subscription, no download. It runs entirely in your browser on any device.

Can I use this for my office or commercial space? +

Yes. The 2026 Flying Star sectors are the same for all property types. What changes is which areas you choose to activate based on how you use each zone. An office benefits from placing workstations and meeting rooms in the 8 White and 9 Purple sectors. Avoid storing important documents or valuables near the 5 Yellow and 2 Black sectors.

What is the difference between annual Flying Star and fixed Feng Shui? +

Fixed Feng Shui refers to the natal energy of a building — determined by when it was built and its facing direction. Annual Flying Star shows how the nine stars shift every year. This tool shows the 2026 annual overlay only. For the combined picture — natal and annual together — book a consultation.

Which direction should I face to get the compass reading? +

Stand at your front door, face outward (as if leaving the building), and take the compass reading. That is your facing direction. For apartments in a tower, use the direction the building faces overall, not the apartment door.
